About a week ago, my team and I walked back to Abraham’s Project after having dinner with the rest of our squad at the AIM base. We planned on having team time and going to bed shortly after, until we heard a knock on our door! A few members of Iglesia el es, a growing church ministry near us, invited us for a night of worship and prayer that just so happened to be held in our back yard. Small note: my team lived on a ministry base called ‘Abrahams Project’. We lived in an old children’s home for two weeks. This was to help reduce numbers at the AIM base due to Covid!  Abrahams project uses their base to host different churches, house single moms, and they also have a day care open to the public! Iglesia El es started their church just a few months ago and currently holds their services at Abrahams Project! Just wanted to give y’all a little more detail on that! But, anyways, we obviously said yes!

As soon as we walked up, we were greeted by members of their church and met a lot of sweet people from the community! Everyone spoke Spanish so it was a little hard at first to communicate, but all of us tried to speak a the little Spanish we knew and they tried to speak the little English they knew. So, it ended up being really sweet, despite the language barrier. They had chairs set up, coffee, and all their instruments ready for worship!

One of the members prayed us all in, then their worship team began. Most of it was spontaneous worship, which is really just worship that creates a space for the Holy Spirit to move without there being any expectation or  set plan. Allowing the Lord to do whatever He wants to do. For me, the Lord gave me a few scriptures to read over. One of them was Hebrews 11: 8-9, which reads, “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith- for he was like a foreigner, living in tents.”

Right away, I was like… WOW! I felt as if God was literally sitting in the chair in front of me, sipping on coffee and sharing this specific scripture with me. I felt like He was telling me that I am Abraham right now. Leaving my family back home in Texas, not knowing what I’m doing, where I’m going, or what’s going to happen. But, taking that step with God and saying yes to His plan for me, not my own. Ha and another thing that made me laugh a little was the fact that in the last part of the verse where it says “for he was like a foreigner, living in tents,” that was my reality for the 3 months I lived in Georgia. oh my goodness!

Another verse the Lord put on my heart was John 1: 6-9. Ah, this one is so good. It reads, “God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” This is just so good. God sent people then, and is STILL sending people all over to spread His love, His goodness, and His presence to all of His children. ALL OVER THE WORLD. Coming to Costa Rica, there were some lies that the enemy was putting in my head. Things like, “what do you have to offer here? You don’t know enough to spread the Gospel.” Just lies! But, in this scripture, God was reminding me that He WAS sending me. That He has given me the opportunity to share my testimony on what God brought me out of, how every good thing comes from Him, and even in all the hardships I have been though, He was present, He gave me strength, and He continually is restoring my heart, mind, and soul DAILY. And because of all of these things, now I get to be His hands and feet here in Costa Rica. Letting Him flow through me as I speak, loving on the people in this community, and being the light just as He mentioned in scripture.

As worship continued with Iglesia el es, it was so, so beautiful that even with the language barrier, we were still able to come altogether and worship our God. That, it doesn’t matter where we are or who we’re with, God is still present everywhere and is the same God in the U.S as He is in Costa Rica. Which is so, so awesome!!

So, ya! I just wanted to share this really cool moment with all of you today and just update you on a few things happening here! 🙂 I love all of you so much, miss ya, and feel free to ask me questions or reach out!

God bless! Your sis in Christ, Jamie! 🙂
